How Do You Estimate A Retaining Wall

Like every home, every retaining wall project is unique, but there are several factors that can help you estimate the cost of your project. Labor and material costs as well as wall width, length, height and square footage are key factors in calculating the total cost of a retaining wall.

According to an inch calculator, cost estimation the average cost of a retaining wall is about $5,000, but the total cost can range from $3,000 to $8,000, depending on the height of the wall. The cost to build a retaining wall averages $4,000 to $10,000, or $20 to $50 per square foot, depending on the material, size, and construction method. The average cost of a large stone retaining wall is between $10 and $85 per square foot, depending on the stone selection, design, and installation method. Stone Retaining Wall Costs Type Cost Per Square Foot Details Dry Stone $20 – $85 Common materials include rough stone, limestone, trapezium and slate laid on a compacted gravel foundation, no mortar required.

The average concrete retaining wall costs $20 to $30 per square foot for blocking blocks, or $30 to $40 per square foot for poured concrete. Retaining wall labor costs $40 to $80 per hour or $10 to $30 per square foot, depending on location, wall type, construction method, and complexity. Foundation. A concrete foundation costs between $18 and $55 per linear foot depending on wall type, size, depth, and soil conditions. A driveway retaining wall costs $30 to $120 per linear foot for 1 or 2 high natural stone walls or interlocking concrete blocks, depending on size and slope.

Wall Installation

The average cost to build a retaining wall ranges from $3,500 to $10,000, and the average homeowner pays about $5,463 for a 25-foot-long, 4-foot-tall cinder block retaining wall, all installed on a reinforced concrete base. Wall cladding using vinyl, steel, wood, or concrete materials costs $150 to $600 per linear foot. The average cost to build a 100-foot-long dam is $15,000 to $60,000, depending on materials, elevation and shoreline availability.

The cost of embedding varies widely depending on the material, height and location of the wall. Of course, materials are not the only cost, as labor costs and the actual size of the walls are other important determinants. If you are not self-employed, there are additional labor costs to consider.

All of these aspects will influence the type of wall you choose to build and the materials you use. If you’re embarking on an elective home improvement project, you can make a decision based on the look of the wall and your budget. We have estimating tools, that will help with your wall estimate, our wall calculator is based with cubic feet and hourly rate.

If you want to build a wall, you may have to sacrifice certain elements to keep costs down to what you can afford, otherwise your wall may have to wait. Keep in mind that sometimes you can combine the following materials to create unique and strong walls, such as when you may need extra support in one area and reinforcement with concrete or steel when using stacked blocks or stones elsewhere.

Make sure you don’t build higher than 4 feet from the ground, as higher walls require extra support and the need for a civil engineer to survey the area. Be sure to consider installing the first row of blocks below ground level when measuring the desired wall height. Use cloth behind boulders on sandy/gravel soils Do not use cloth on clay/loamy soils as cloth will clog, swell and push wall forward Always place larger boulders at the bottom Set tracks (rows) back 3 inches per foot of wall height Space out rows in a checkerboard pattern so that the seams do not match. Spend time joining the walls for a tighter fit. Extinguish the face of the boulders.

The second wall requires stronger materials, such as large retaining wall blocks, and may require revision of the design plans by the structural engineer. Both walls are 100 square feet, the first wall is so low that almost any type of material can be used, even ordinary pressure treated wood. Heavier walls are more resistant to erosion, freeze/thaw cycles, etc. Walls over 8 feet (sometimes even over 4 feet) require design (i.e. they are needed in order for the structure to be built correctly.

If you are creating an earthen wall, you should use one type of infill, which typically costs $20 to $25 per square foot. As with other building materials such as flooring or roofing, square meters are a convenient way to compare the cost of different types of retaining wall materials.

A 10-foot, 3-foot-tall cinder block wall can cost as little as $1,239, or a 30-foot, 5-foot lava cinder block wall for as little as $12,029. face. At the top end of the scale, expect to pay up to $30 per square foot for larger 16-inch decorative blocks and extras like paving stones and wall curves. In addition to the price per linear foot, a permit can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $4,000 depending on the state, city or county.

If the cinder block wall is too high, it may need to be driven deeper into the ground to reach the desired height; it requires a little more digging, but other than that it’s ok.
